The museum is located in Liberty, MO. The site has an audio description of its artifacts as well as a newsletter.
The Ben Ferrell Museum Library has a collection of books on Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee where many Platte County residents originated. It also has many donated family histories and Platte County newspapers on microfilm.
From their mission statment: “To procure, preserve, restore, maintain, study, and promote manuscripts, instruments, records, charters, evidence, and documents of a public or private nature which may have statistical, legal or historical significance to Clay County, Missouri, its government or residents, or such documents as might be desirable to the association and to encourage public interest therein.”

Under “Online Information/Research databases/Genealogy” you will find Heritage Quest (a list of all US Census records by census year and indexed, city directories and other helpful features), Newspaper.com (many newspapers from around the U.S.), Fold3 (military records) and Digital Sanborn Maps to name a few. You will need your library card number to log-in. Inside a branch library you can also access Ancestry.com. .
The University of Pennsylvania’s Historical Newspapers on-line lists over 25 free sites, many of them in Pennsylvania.
Leslie Lawson is a forensic genealogist who lives in the Portland, Oregon, area. Her site lists all of the states and by clicking on the name of the state you can see their resources, both digital and archival. If a site has a fee, it is so listed.
